Born and resident in South Africa, married to Hillary and father of Tamlyn (27) and Murray (24). Close (hopefully) to retiring after running a retail sound and security company, Tricom/Unisound, for well over 20 years.
I grew up in Pretoria and attended Bishops for one year and Pretoria Boys High School for the rest of my secondary schooling. Studying at the University of Natal, I met my wife Hillary in Pietermaritzburg. We married in Natal and moved to Johannesburg soon after. We have lived here ever since, spending a significant period in Hurlyvale, Edenvale, and the past 15 years in Craighall Park.
Our daughter, Tamlyn Jane, also known to me as Tammy, Tippie and Fishy, is an aspiring academic and married to Vaughn Horsman. She is still a Monson, however, having effectively kept her maiden name. We consider Vaughn's brother Calan another unofficial member of the family.
Our son, Murray, has a marketing qualification and is currently infected with the travel bug. He has spent the last 18 months working in London and traveling through Europe, and plans to travel Asia in 2005.
My mother, Pat Monson, lives five minutes away at Deansgate Retirement Home. We lost my father, Doug, to a car accident some thirty years ago, and have felt his absence ever since.
